JBL Xtreme 2 - The New Party Speaker of the JBL

  • Alt

JBL has announced the new JBL Xtreme 2, which is an ideal choice for pool parties with its powerful sound, water protection, and a built-in bottle opener.

I've previously written about the two new portable models: the JBL Clip 3 and the JBL Go 2, and now let’s see what are the improvements of the bigger brother the new JBL Xtreme 2.

In terms of physical design not much has changed, the form and the dimensions are almost identical to the previous generation.

However, you can spot some improvements in the smaller details.

For example, the plastic covers at the ends of the speaker are thicker and look more robust such as the new stand on the bottom.

Overall, the speaker looks a little stronger and more massive.

The integrated metal hooks were enlarged and the carrying strap got a new handy tool: a bottle opener.

The biggest improvement of the JBL Xtreme 2 over the former model that it got an IPX7 water protection which means that it is not just splash-proof but completely waterproof, it can be submerged into 1-meter-deep water for 30 minutes.

It even floats, so you don’t have to worry if you accidentally drop it into the water.

However, if you have just imagined how cool it will be to drop into the middle of your pool and blast the music, I have to disappoint you.

It does not float on its back so you cannot listen to music on it while it is floating.

To ensure the water protection the zipper of the first generation was replaced with a waterproof flap.

The Xtreme 2 got an updated driver and two newly designed 3D bass radiators.

It is said to have a larger bass and an enhanced sound quality with 50 watts output power compared to the 40 watts of the older model.

The battery life remained 15 hours, however, in contrast, the two ports of the predecessor, it features only one USB charging port to charge external devices.

This is a step back compared to the original model where you could charge two phones simultaneously with the speaker.

It will support the JBL Connect+ technology, which means you can connect it together with more than one hundred JBL Connect+ enabled speakers.
