The new UE Blast, Megablast smart speakers are here with Amazon Alexa integration

  • Alt

The competition in smart speakers is heating up.

After Google and Amazon, additional manufacturers started to launch their own voice assistant supporting speakers.

Thanks to this, we are not only able to enjoy the benefits of the smart features, but these new speakers are also great for music listening.

This time, Logitech extended its product portfolio with two new speakers: the UE Blast and the UE Megablast.

Both speakers have built-in Wi-Fi connectivity and Amazon Alexa support.

The design is very similar to the previous UE Boom and UE Megaboom and the new models have also inherited their outstanding features such as high portability and water resistance.

This made them a very strong competitor in the smart speaker market.

It is a good news that besides the Blast also the Boom product line remains available.

The Blast and the Megablast are available in six colors: Graphite (Black), Blizzard (White), Blue Steel, Merlot (Red), Mojito (Green) and Lemonade (Yellow) for $230 and $300 suggested retail prices.

Thanks to the new smart features, connecting the speakers to Wi-Fi or to a mobile hotspot the 25.000 skills of Alexa become available like the smart home control or the digital assistant.

In addition, they can stream music from Amazon Music, iHeartRadio and TuneIn and voice control for Pandora and Deezer is expected in the future.

The UE promised that regular updates can be expected for the speakers via the new mobile app, so they get smarter and better over time.

Despite its resemblance with the Megaboom the Megablast was completely redesigned inside.

It got two passive radiators, two active drivers, and two tweeters.

With these, the Megablast is 40 percent louder than the Megaboom and it makes it the loudest speaker in the Ultimate Ears lineup with 93dBC maximum sound pressure level.

Both speakers have a dust-resistant waterproof design with IP67 certification.

In terms of connectivity, they have 330 feet Wi-Fi and 150 feet Bluetooth range.

The battery life is up to 12 hours for Blast and 16 hours for Megablast.

I usually complain about the design of the charging port of most waterproof speakers since they are badly designed and hard to connect the charging cable to them.

If you are like me the good news is that an optional accessory is available for the speaker the Ultimate Ears POWER UP.

This is a sleek charging dock which makes the charging more convenient and can be bought for $40.
